v10 98 econline club wagon independent air conditioning line leaking	Sign In

My vans rear driver side tire tread snapped, hitting the pipe to the independent rear air conditioning unit. All coolant leaked out when it was towed. The pipes look rusted and would probably need to be replaced all the way from the rear driver side wheel well to the engine. I don't know if there is another way to fix this. Since there are two lines, I'm wondering if I can just cut the rear a/c unit out of the loop and connect the two pipes so the flow continues. Or is there a way to prevent the coolant from being cycled to the a/c unit entirely?

If you are talking about refrigerant and not coolant from the heater, then you have no options beyond replacing the lines. The front could work independently but there is no way to seal off the high pressure.

Readers: Coolant is like the antifreeze mix. Refrigerant is what is in A/C. A/C lines could be spliced with expensive equipment most shops wouldn't have or bother with. Do the whole line,
