hi guys..first time poster here. 2003 chevy impala, 3.4L ,about 40000 miles. the problem...I think is the thermostat.I will get no heat untill engine gets to about 200deg.blower blows cold as the temp gage rises,and then,all at once the heat kicks on. I thought some heat (even just warm ) should start right away.On a cold day,it can take close to 10 min. before I get any sign of warmth.

Guess is you'll find it low on coolant. When it warms it expands and may be high enough in engine to run coolant thru heater but not when just warm.
Ok: This car may not have a cap on the radiator to check level there which is what you need to verify now - not just the recovery tank. Sometimes you can squeeze upper hose when cold and see bubbles at tank or something tell-tale that it's not really full there.
If you find it low at the tank that you can see into certainly fill it there now and keep monitoring that. It should stay stable and withing the "cold" and "hot" marks on that tank. If not - gotta find out why,
