i have a 1999 Plymouth breeze, when i turn the heat on it don''t work, it blows, but it will only blow in what the temp from outside is. however, if i don''t turn it on, then after driving for a while, and i turn it on, it will blow in hot air for only a few seconds, then it starts blowing back in the temp from outside. what could be a possible problem and how much do you think it will cost too fix? BTW i have tried adding anti freeze.......

You will need to know it's full at the radiator and some cars don't have a radiator cap.If not cap on the radiator try squeezing the upper hose when cool with cap off at recovery tank and see if bubbles go to recovery tank or just commotion of liquid. Low level for an unknown reason now would be the most likely problem. Then perhaps a plugged heater core or faulty heater control valve is used in this car.
Feel the hoses going to and from the core - CAREFULLY PLEASE!!

ok...i am getting ready too go to bed now for i have too be up at 2 a.m. for work, when i get too work i will see if anyone can check the hose for me with the fan on low and high. when i do get that checked i will get back too you and let you know what happened.however, if i can't find someone in the morning to check that, i will see if i can find the hose myself and check it. if i can not find it and i can't get anyone too check it for me, then i will get back too you as soon as i find something out.
i am not sure where you are from, but i am in ohio, and if you have auto zone where your at maybe you can tell me if all else fails, do you think they would check it or is that kinda thing too advanced for a car part store? i just figured i would ask since they do check some things,fix minor things etc etc etc.... well if you have auto zone where your at you would know what all they do.
thank you for your time in helping me figure out what could be wrong. :~)

If you are having trouble identifying heater hoses from other items than you do need some help with this. No harm in asking at AutoZone if someone would help you verify the cooling system is full. IMO employees of parts stores are not necessarily mechanics. Not easy with certain problems on vehicles that don't use a radiator cap on the radiator but rather a pressure cap on the tank where you can add and see the high and low levels which are only accurate when the system is tight which it may not be.
Blower FAN speed test was to see if some heat would come out on LOW speed and near none on HIGH. A clogged heater core could behave like that.
It is important to know why you don't have heat. If the reason is low anti-freeze/water than the reason that it's low is VERY important!
FYI - MetroWest - Boston is a suburban grouping of cities and towns West of Boston, Massachusetts but in the Eastern 1/3 of the state. Similar weather as most of Ohio would be where I am.......
