How much has to be disconnected (electrical) before removing the instrument panel?

Re: heater core 98 Taurus Sign In

Before you start, check under the center of the dash for an electric motor for the blend door. Behind the motor see if there is an access cover with a few bolts going to it. I have just done a 2000 Taurus heater core. I'm not sure if 98 will be the same design. If you see the cover, it is mounted diagonally, this is the cover to remove to access the heater core without removing the whole heater module. You will still need to unscrew the lower part of the dash to get the core out and the new one in. But, it is not as bad as it seems. Have a small 2x4 ready also to hold the lower dash out instead of fighting it with a pry bar as you swap out the core.
