I just flushed my radiator in my 96 S-10 blazer with one of those back flushing kits sold in stores. It has 170,000 miles on it with a 4.3 ltr. I flushed it real good and got out the rusty Dexcool anti-freeze. I just put in regular Peak green anti-freeze. It was flushed last year by a shop but dexool was put back in and it was still full of rust
Ive read so much bad stuff about dexcool and most mechanics ive spoke with have agreed that its not very good for radiators.
Id like to flush the dexcool out of my 04 impala but im wondering what everyones thoughts are with dexcool and you replacing it with regular antifreeze???

There is nothing wrong with Dexcool. It's the way people maintain their cars that is the problem. If Dexcool is used and replaced every 5 years as it is supposed to be, and all leaks are repaired right away, there will never be a problem. It's the poor maintenance that puts the deposits in your cooling system

I agree with HT as long as it's maintained correctly there isn't a problem.

I do have to say between the 2 I would say dex cool is way more "picky". If you are going to use it you should only used purified water in the system, no tap water. You should actually used purified water for both but you'll have more sludge & build up problems quicker with dex cool than ethylene glycol using tap water & the deposits that go along with it.

My take: No more (and no problems with it either) and it is just an EG product really. I'll buy expensive other products sold at NAPA and elsewhere for my own vehicles. Retired from biz,
