How can I fix it, so I can turn on the heat....heater works but I'm afraid to run it for fear of causing a fire or more trouble. Most antifreeze is ethyene/glycol and makes a mess and is toxic so tend to this now. These things don't heal on their own and are near always tough jobs. The heater core is the problem. You can bypass the core by tieing the two heater hoses together using a line coupler. You won't have heat, but you also won't have the mess getting any worse until you get it fixed. It could make you go out and buy a bunch of little tools that can get into tight places that unless you really want to invest in them you would spend more than paying a shop. A shop that takes on A/C and not all do should take on the job. There are some areas that you can break parts if not careful and really cause headaches. Ask in your area about who will take this on. Dealers will but they will cost a bit more most of the time. If the vehicle is all stunk up you may even want to send it to a place to shampoo interior. Like Steve said you can bypass this for now but you forgo any heat while bypassed. I vote for sending out and let the hands on tech verify that this is the problem. there is a slight chance that this could be a cooling hose that can leak coolant into the area but not usually.
