air condition on jeep liberty Sign In

2006 jeep liberty 3.7
Air conditioning just stopped working, brought it to my mechanic. He tells me it is some electric part that must be ordered from the dealer and programmed by them. total cost $700 or more. I never heard of such a thing, is this possible? Or am I being taken for a ride.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I would imagine he's talking about the body control module. It does have to be reprogrammed. It controls when it allows the a/c clutch is applied.

A little more specific info would be helpful...... That was a bit vague...

Well had the body control module replaced and reprogrammed for $900. Two weeks later same thing is happening. Now he tells me I need a compressor for an additional $400(says he is not charging me the labor).. I personally think this was mis-diagnosed and I just needed a compressor from the beginning. I think I am paying for their screw up.. I own my own business and if I screw up I eat it. Sorryguys Iam just venting, feels like I was taken for a ride.

If it had a bad compressor last time, replacing the BCM would not have given you cold air. That doesn't make sense.

Re: air condition on jeep liberty Sign In

Right - the compressor at least compressed gas for you if you got cold air. It's also a source for a leak - frequently shaft seal that leaves oily evidence behind clutch on front of the compressor or could be leaking anywhere. What basis were you told that the compressor was bad? Bad pressures?

Most will make noise at first as a clue they are in trouble. It's possible to just fail. Does it still engage now? If not AND there's adequate pressure in the system that is a problem to chase down. A clutch coil could be the issue. They can be tested.

Did the cooling quit all at once or slowly go warmer on you?

All questions - sorry and you might not have the answers but there's more to diagnosing this than just blaming something without some hard info,

T

PS: If you are convinced by the shop this is a compressor than insist that it be a new one! No remans - you've had enough trouble or let's say expense already,
