There is only one accepted refrigerant used for automotive now. That would be R134A. That's all vehicles built after 1993.

just bought one of those quick fill cans. It comes with only one fitting and does not seem to fit. Am I trying to fill this at the wrong point.

Take that can back! Fill with pure product thru real gauges or you are in for a nasty surprise if not right away then later. See charging procedures locked post above in this section. The ports are not the same so folks don't mix them up. High side is larger by a lot. They connect like air tools.

You can still charge with little 12oz pure product with a quality can tap thru real gauges so you know whether you even need any and from the read you don't know.

Gauges are rent-able at some parts outlets. The can tap that will work with real gauges you will have to buy and get one with a long hose so you can weigh the can and know how much you are adding if you need to at all,
