You do mean the blower won't go to "high" fan - right? As in the lower speeds work?

If so:

Will it go to high fan on any other request?

Lack of highest fan could be the selector switch itself - especially since it can snap out of that at will. A fuse or resistor probably wouldn't be intermittent like that....

Re: ac not working right Sign In

Okay this hard to explain, so you would understand so bare me. 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix Gt2
I realize what the recirculation button is for, how it works... This happens to me every summer for the last 3 years,
I turn on the ac on High ( It blows out cold air.. but not enough ) and I also will turn on recirculate button.... Then that's when you can hear an extra boost in the air coming out and also it gets much, much colder... Each summer the same thing happens -- About april-may it doesn't work like it should until about july.. with a/c on highest and recirculator on, its blows - but not it should .. When its working correctly... you can hear the air blowing out louder and harder and colder, between pushing the two buttons.... Just last week,, I drove for about 50 minutes, i had the ac on the highest and I also had the recirculator on... It was warm (it was blowing cold air out.) With out touching any buttons or nobbs.. You could feal the air harder and hear the air blow out fast and more, nice cold cold air. (Didn't anything).. Its stays on running correctly-- until I turned my car off, 15 min. later start up and I'm back to the same ol same.. I checked the fuses. relays.. For some strange reason it seems like you have to hours in while it hitting 98's-101's for a month or so It then one day Itll blow like it suppose to.... I've spoke to an A/C man ... He didn't think I knew what was going on.. telling that's how hard the air blows and cold.. Didn't need to be recharge... Please help me get the the bottom of this--Thank you

Re: ac not working right Sign In

The ac will blow at all levels of speed and head feet body everywhere you want.. When ac is on max. air .... you can tell that it is on max and tell the difference from the lower levels of air.. But when I push the recirculation button.... It stays the same on air blowing... But it should blow harder and colder.. you can hear the difference.. ( The recirculator buttom is almost like a super max..-- that how much a difference it is.. Does the same thing to me for the last 3 years... Then one day out of the blue-- without touching anything (a/c at max. circul.on) without doing anything --- It decides to work right,, blowing harder and colder... Any time That i want it to...

Re: ac not working right Sign In

It's not a charge issue but the actuator door that controls where the incoming air comes from. When on "recirc" it's re-cooling air from inside the vehicle and does make more air flow and sound, and of course cooling pre-cooled air would result in maximum performance.

It's intermittent so might be hard to nail down just what is not working or stuck. The button should light, there should be an electric (I think) actuator motor that turns a flap door to direct incoming air to come from inside vs outside. Actuator may have the fault or that door sticks - dunno.

It's going to have to be caught NOT operating properly and test out which of those components is not responding,

Re: ac not working right Sign In

Hey, I'm having the exact same problem with my 04 Grand Prix. The recirculation will work intermittently during long drives, sometimes not at all. Did you ever figure out what was wrong and how to fix it? Thanks.
