I have a 2008 chevy silverado 5.3l.... The air blowing out on the coldest setting is mildly cold if that.... I checked the freon and its running to high at about 80 psi... My compressor and clutch both kick on and cycle but the air is still not cooling to what it should be.... Any suggestions before I take it in and spend a small fortune?

What is the high side pressure? Have you added any refrigerant in the past? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

If that's a low side reading while compressor is engaged it strongly suggests you are low on refrigerant. If that's the pressure just sitting there then the temperature underhood is about a tad less than 80 degrees F. You can't know it's full without taking all of it out and charge it from a vacuum to spec. Pressure give clues, they don't tell you it's so call full with exactitude. This is it's own art, not just a single # but an algorithm of the conditions when pressures are taken. You need high side #'s too, raised idle and the temp going thru grille, T

Ooops - if low it could drop instead - thanks for the catch. I think that's just a static pressure that we are seeing for now. However, since this seems to cool just the slightest bit suggests a low charge which for a 2008 is a bit rare but a stone can hit the condenser on your way home with a new car?? Who knows - stuff can just happen and still the #1 reason for poor cooling is low charge/no charge but with any pressure like 80 it has something in it, Tom

He said the compressor was engaged. That's why i was waiting for him to tell me what the high side was and whether he added any yet.

Same - we need that info while it's engaged as it can cycle and would if it can reach 80 psi it would at least cycle, T
