1979 lincoln continental. Replaced expansion valve, filter dryer and new compressor. Flushed the system with correct flushing solution and dryed it out with nitrogen. Added 6 ounces oil to compressor, 1 for filter/dryer, 2 for condenssor and 2 for evaporator. Evacuated the system for one hour then added correct amount of R12 according to shop manual. At 75 degrees air temp i have 33 psi low side and 160 high. Everything seems correct but can only get 50 degrees out of register. I thought maybe i overcharged so i released some freon and noticed a lot of oil coming out with the freon. Do you think my problem could be to much oil? THANKS KEN.

That's 50 degrees even at highway speed won't go any lower.

That's still good. Your car is 31 years old. The foam seals are all pretty rotted and shot by now mixing warm air with your cold air. Your in pretty good shape at 50 degrees. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

What we really need to know is what speed the blower motor is on. You will get your lowest temp with the a/c set at max, recirculate and the blower on low. There you should be able get mid to low 40s, possibly high 30s. On high the temp could go up as much as 10° Like Desi said, it's possible you are getting some hot air mix. Pinch off your heater hoses & see if the temp drops, if it does you're getting some mix...... If the compressor was empty, you may be just a tad low on oil, if it came full of oil, then you have way too much oil in the system

Good idea i'll try pinching off heater hose and see what happens. The compressor came with oil which i discarded and replaced with fresh mineral oil. Thanks for the info.

Do we mean "Continental" or one like above which was the "Town Car" which was an option package that ended in 1979 - then was the name of a platform known a the "Panther" body? The one above could blow snow at you. Own and owned bazillions of this stuff. 50F isn't right but already said it's an old car. Condenser and evaporator need be clean as all get out or you won't see the 40sF out puts. Could they - E-my gad yes! Chiefly these critters are Fords. Any Ford with the nameplate Lincoln was made in Wixom, MI. Hey - I actually don't know a ton (no pun) about A/C in the suckers as they always just plain worked! Tom
