88 lebaron. acworks ok plenty cool. the modulation is like this first cool then the heat comes on & then the heat comes on to blend with cool but this gets uncomfortable after a while & have to turn it off & open the windows. I thing it might be the ambient temp unit or some other modulating unit need help on this thanks greg Angelic

Will need lots more info. History would really help along with recent work if any. Is this still R-12 or what is the current refrigerant? Could it be mixed or have any trick products been used - sealers, enhancers etc?

At the moment the guess would be evaporator is icing but too early to know that,

HI Iam back greg kars167@core .com 88 lebaron heat & cooling cool comes on ok & with cool on the heat come on checked the ac is pumping & the heater valve opens all the way. some times the cool work just fine thinging it is a electical switching problem can here a relay at the glove box area clicking on & off, this is a ditital dash unit. when I hear this click the heat comes on then it gets very uncomfortibale. the code on the temp sellector reads 01 greg.Unsure

Re: ac&heater first cool thenheat then cool drives me nuts 88 lebaron ditial dash Sign In

You need to tell us more pertinant info and history. You say it engages compressor and cools then goes warm on you. That's consistent with icing - meaning the cool of the evaporator is frosting over then residence air time at core isn't adequate to transfer heat - or in other words make cold air for you and you are just getting ambient temp air at probably a lower rate.

Needed:

Ambient temp you are dealing with.

Low and high side pressures at idle and again at 1,500 RPM with A/C on full blast, windows open.

Temp taken in front of condenser and output temp taken at center panel vent.

*************

That much for starters and include history. Is it still R-12 or what is in it now? Has anyone put a sealer - or stuff from a can with gauge on it containing other than pure refrigerant. This uses a TXV that won't be happy with goo in it.

Do you see frost on any lines under hood?

HI tom greg back kars167@core.com thanks for your reply.yes it now has r134 in it & has had sealent put in by others. will have to get a temp gage to check it out. & no there is no frost on the lines only sweat. this unit has the heat & cool on at the same time full blast.when the unit starts the automatic controls bring the cooling on full blast I have to slow the fan down. on the temp unit the code reads 01 I do not have the codes in my chiltons repair book wiring&vacuum diagrams thanks tom gregSmile

If it's trying to heat and cool at the same time the heat will win - period.

What I can't know is if there's anything wrong electronically with the controls OR if this is just all clogged up from junk, not properly changing over to 134a.

Pressures/temps taken now will tell a boat load of info and then the only practical thing to do is flush out the whole system, goo, sealer and all, change over hoses to barrier lined hose, a new TXV and if you look at hub of compressor it's no doubt soaked with oil so it and the dryer(s) must go too. It probably is clogging "X" valve, icing and confusing the controls which may be working fine but can't cover the problem. This is a mega buck job at a glance. If there's something more than refrigerant problems that's on top of that work! Egad - is this car worth it?
