a/c doesnt blow cool air Sign In

2001 pontiac bonneville 3800 series 2 engine 114,000 miles

A/C doesnt blow cool air at all. I left the car siting for 2 week because I was on vacation and when I came back the A/C only blew hot air. the temp outside is 100 degrees. NO one has driven the car since I left and it worked fine before.

I tried poking the value to see if freon fluid came out and it didnt, just air pressure that began to fade. I just found out that you shouldnt do that though

At a true 100F 134a should have had 124PSI for pressure just sitting there. Careful poking the ports as some are ball valves and you'll wreck them.

The real "static" pressure would have been better and factor in engine heat if it was running it would be higher. That only mean there's some in the system, not how much.

Still by the observation all your refrigerant up and leaked out and two weeks isn't a long time for a car to sit. A two week leak should be easy to find but if it managed that and wasn't running or leaking a bit before that some of the common clues like oil evidence probably won't be found.

Do you plan to fix this or send it out? No telling right now unless you see some obvious damage like perhaps from recent road debris hitting condenser just wrong.

IMO - expect that since it was fine two weeks ago that just fixing the leak and a proper charge would fix this,

Refrigerant is not a liquid. It is a colorless, odorless gas and it sounds like you just vented what little you have.

so if the ac was working 2 weeks ago and not working now, it is most likely a leak? if so, how much does something like that typically cost? what steps would you recommend i take? if it's a simple fix i'll get it fixed

The system needs to be professionally diagnosed. No one can tell you what is wrong without an inspection and test.

I'd still send it to a shop that routinely does A/C to find this leak which could be about anything and without knowing what and where there's no telling how much or what is leaking. Could be as silly as a port or who knows right now? Get an estimate once found but at a minimum it would take a vacuum and recharge to spec which depending on your area could be $150 - $250 or more.

Labor rates where I am have a wide range up to $120US / Hr!

Do you live in the Dallas area? If so, I can recommend a few.
