When AC on i have no power steering..... Sign In

Year: 1994
Make: Lexus
Model: GS300
Enging size: 3.0 v6 2jz
mileage: 140

OK so today i was sitting in traffic on my way home from the beach and i suddenly lost power steering. so i pulled over to see what the problem was. I noticed that on my dash the low voltage light came up and that AC light was blinking. When i turn off the AC the low voltage light turns off and my power steering comes back like nothing happened. Anyone else have this problem? Is it the AC compressor or is it The pully or belt? i need some help its going to be over 100 degrees for like the rest of the week!!

I started my car to go up to 7-11 and the belt started squeeling, just some extra info.

Thanks for the help

OK: You'll need to check belt quality and that is has proper tension. Belt sure seems like it's slipping and hope just a stretched belt or poor tensioner yet to be found out.

Know that compressor and PS pump can use a lot of energy and depending on belt routing not all item's get the same % of grab of the belt. Right now I think the A/C stole too much energy for everything to work - slipping and hence the the belt squealing.

Could be compressor trouble but not so fast. See if you can turn center of the outer hub of compressor by hand - use a decent glove - it should turn by hand. If not there could be trouble if slipping with a good tight belt.

If way too hard to turn or can't at all compressor could be the problem.

Again - check belt and tension of it as best you can now. The self adjustment for tension has a limit to how far it can keep belt properly snug. Hope it's just that and perhaps a tensioner bad or out of its range.

Be fast to fix compressor and if not real familiar disable it until fixed if all else checks out. Early if in fact a compressor beginning to seize up can save extra work if early. When off/disbled compressor is just a pulley,

T
