Urgent help with ac compressor... Sign In

2001 Ford Taurus (3.0L V6 Vulcan) 156K miles

I've taken my car to shop to fix bad ac compressor. They replaced compressor and the lines, drained and refilled the system. Worked great for about a week and the clutch started slipping. Took it back to the shop, they replaced the compressor and drained, refilled the system. 2 weeks later the same thing happened.

We found out that the alternator was pretty weak, putting out just 12.4 -12.5 volts with everything off on idle. So I replaced it myself. As of right now Everything off, 100F and idle puts out about 13.6 - 13.7 volts. They insisted on putting a new alternator so I did. They checked everything last night and said everything looks good. Today I was getting on the highway, floored it for about 4sec, let off the gas and the ac clutch is slipping. Cooled down, everything looks good (although it slips for 1sec when i turn the ac) , went drive it again, and it slips again , like its overheating. Went to Firestone . They blame the alternator again. Idle with everything on, I mean everything , interior lights, high beams, radio and full blast ac puts out about 13.0v - 13.1 v and 14.4 at about 1.5k rpm @ 100F outside temp. They said I need to put another alternator in. Somehow at night the clutch doesn't slip at all. It blows ice cold. During the day it slips pretty bad.

They pretty much left me with no choice but to replace alternator again even thou I'm 100% sure it's not what is causing it. Could it be loose belt? The tensioner makes little bit of chirping noise so IDK.

What could it be? They checked the pressure and its correct. The ac is filled to the correct level so either they are doing something wrong or there is something causing it to slip.

Help me guys.

Apparently, they still haven't repaired the original cause of the compressor failure. They don't just die for no reason. Firestone is not the place to get A/C work. You need someone that specializes in it. I would expect that at the very least, you need a condenser.
