Toyota Echo 2003 A/C squealing Sign In

I have a problem with my Toyota Echo 2003 a/c. It starts squealing very loudly when I hit the gas pedal when starting out.

It has to be an a/c problem since it never screeches with the a/c off. However, once the car is already in motion (after 20mph or so), I can safely turn on the a/c and it doesn't screech, but at the next stop I have to turn off the a/c again otherwise it will start to squeal when starting out. I also feel like the car doesn't have as much power when it's screeching.

The a/c itself is working, it blows cold air, it just seems like something is not engaging right at low speeds/when just starting out.

I had one of the belts replaced but it didn't fix it at all. There is another belt down under but it's supposed to be a power steering belt so it shouldn't have anything to do with it.

My next thought is something called a/c clutch. Now is that something that can be replaced separately from the compressor and how much would it cost? Would it make more sense to replace compressor with it too?

One more thing, the a/c screeches only in hot humid weather or when it's raining.

The noise you're hearing is the belt slipping. It's either a belt problem or a compressor freezing up. I'm guessing the belt.

I already had the belt replaced though. I was driving back from the car shop and there was no noise for a couple of miles but then the screech returned even louder than before.

Would the ac still blow cold if the compressor froze up?

Freezing up, not frozen. The noise is the belt, the question is why.
