Time for new Blend Door Again ...!? 1 Day Job or $2500 Sign In

The AC is blowing only Semi-Cold air out the middle Vents and hot air on the side vents which leads me to believe I have to replace the Blend Door of the Heater Core again. I did it around 75k miles on my 2015 Chevy Camaro and when I had another 2015 Chevy Camaro I did it at around 100K
my Camaro is at about 130k now so its possible the blend for broke again like it always does on the Camaros. I was afraid that's the problem, but I still checked the pressure of the A/C System ( reading attached) which seams to be pretty normal .. I was thinking about just topping it off, just to hang on to the last little bit of hope that its not the blend door...

Although the pressures do look normal, that doesn't mean much of anything unless you know exactly how much refrigerant is in the system. That's why I always start a diagnosis with an evacuate and recharge of the system with the exact specified amount of refrigerant.
It's very dangerous to arbitrarily add refrigerant to a system.

If you want an easy way to determine if you have a door problem, just totally pinch off one of the heater hoses going into the heater core. If everything gets cold, you have a door problem and the charge is close to correct. If you still get warm air, you have a refrigerant problem.

It's 10 hours to change the evaporator so the blend door will be about the same

I'm just surprised at repeat blend doors and somehow an upgrade something isn't already made - end that but you don't seem sure??

Cost? Time? Where did you come up with that? From last time? No telling what might be broken or what going back?

Pressures shown look OK but need to know RPMs when taken at what temperature.

You can just touch and feel where it feels like what CAREFUL of hot and cold or use a touchless thermo.

Why do you think it needs it? That you check a center vent how cool air is, how much fan speed might change it and again misting condenser with water if that changes outputs in dash air a lot or what?

There are a lot of factors, observations to be instant info so "boosting" isn't really a good approach IMO for this so vacuum it all out (recover) and fill to spec by weight listed for it trust sticker is still there? Virtually all vehicles use much lower amounts so you really can't shotgun it like ages ago rather don't mess with it you could just make it much worse or harm it,

Pinching off the Heater Hose * Amazing Suggestion * Hammertime !! Will Do that if the door isn't the problem, I'll get the system evacuated .. I don't like to do it myself, or is there a way where you can collect the old refrigerant ( DIY) to properly dispose the refrigerant ?

They don't "dispose" of refrigerant. They recycle it. Most all recovery machines recycle.

If you aren't concerned about reusing it, most any shop will gladly pull it out for you.

@greeleaf When the last blend door cracked I remember heat and cold coming out of different vents separately. That the first think that lets me believe it't the door , than of cause since its a common problem with Camaro of that 5th generation ( not sure if they ever fixed that problem on later generations ) Unfortunatley there is no upgrade available and not really motivation you can make yourself but chevy could just make one out of metal ... the consent back and forth in a hot and cold environment with the actuator ( which is ok because I hear it working down there) overturning a little bit and putting pressure on the little plastic knob of the blend door where it holds it, is just a disaster to happen. I came up with the price because I got quotes from Chevy .. they gotta take the dashboard and the windshield etc. out to get to the heater core where the blend door is located. With the time I came up myself because I did it twice. I guess pinching off the heater core hoses is the next step for me to be sure.

That's a lot of fussing to get at things! Sorry that many make stuff that's so involved.

At lease pinching hose take out heat contaminating cooled air. Not sure car by car so don't run it too long and watch engine temp hose may be a by-pass for cooling system is allowing that to mix so even temp inside engine is and need to be.

IDK if you can use a scope to see that door from any sneaky place to know it
s broken or what?

The different temp air coming out isn't a good sign that duct and doors do matter as you know funky stuff happens,

You can leave the hose pinched off as long as you want. It doesn't hurt anything.

Re: Time for new Blend Door Again ...!? 1 Day Job or $2500 Sign In

So I was finally able to find a way to take a look / video of my be-hated Blend for which is chilling with no response inside the heater core, while I'm turning the temperature knob on my A/C and while I here the actuator working.. :

https://drive.google.com/file/d/10P0MfLEC96ekv6vmhpS2cPp-HvbT64Ao/view?usp=sharing

I didn't get in there right from the top though the vents , so I went though the little hole in the heater core housing on the passenger side, where the other side of the blend doors hooks in .. with a endoscope camera

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1DXjdI3iG3SAIHcC2G_225r95cJQE8rTN/view?usp=sharing

I'm getting ready to buy a metal blend door and install it.. hopefully for the last time !

For some reason I can't open that video and the picture I not sure what I'm looking at.

I assume you confirmed the door is broken.

Looks like the links work though..

its just a video of the blend door not moving ... and a pic of the whole on the passenger side where I was able to put the endoscope camera though

I figured that. Good luck with the repair.
