Shop can't find leak on 05 Trailblazer Sign In

Back in the end of May my air conditioning on my 2005 Trailblazer started to go. I took it in and they recharged it and it lasted just a few days. Took it back several times and they couldn't find the leak. They referred me to a shop that uses nitrogen and they told me it was seal on the compressor and I needed a new compressor. The original guy was able to replace the compressor and get it done before a trip my wife was taking and at least $250 cheaper. The results were the same but the leak is slower now. The original guy is now frustrated that the other place said it was the compressor and buys the equipment to do nigrogen testing himself. Today I took it back to him and he said with the nitrogen they still can't find the leak. Any ideas. I think they are as frustrated as I am. This is reputable shop that has been around for many years.

You're at the wrong shop. Any experienced tech can find a leak that empties the system in 3 days if he knows what he is doing. He is just not experienced enough.

I really don't think that is the case. It wasn't completely empty. In almost two weeks it lost 1 lb. this latest time.

That's still a fast leak. They may mean well and be a great shop but if you know your A/C and have the equipment that would be easy to find. It's the one year or more leaks that get tough so those you look for dye more than electronic sniffers which I love.

The nitrogen way IMO is less effective and you are supposed to put a smidge or R-22 in with it to sniff it out then vacuum it all out when leak is found.

134a which is the standard refrigerant is a small molecule and will leak where some other gasses wouldn't,

Yes, that is a very fast leak and would be readily found by an experienced A/C tech.
