1994 FORD TEMPO (2.3L EFI) 200,000 miles is just around the corner I realized as the weather turned cold that I have no heat. Not a big problem when it was 30-40. Now it’s 10-20 and beside being cold, it’s bordering on dangerous. I installed a flush kit and used it (Mon. was above freezing). And a new thermostat, the $14 one not the $6 one. No change. The engine gets hot as does the radiator hose. The temp. gauge says cold. If I let the car idle in one spot for 10-15 min. the gauge will start to rise and I will get heat, but as soon as I start moving, the temp. and heat goes back down. I also loosened the belt and the water pump spins free with no shimmies or shakes. Anyone got any ideas? Thanks, Rod

Something is likely wrong about that thermostat AND the old one?? Upper Rad hose shouldn't be warm/hot till thermostat opens at around the NORMAL operating temp. Somehow it seems able to open early or some other problem/flaw allowing anti-freeze to pass by it where and how it's installed. I forget - is this a tricky thermostat by location? Does it install vertically? Those can fall before you get the housing tightened and coolant passes by - sometimes without a leak. Seriously - the thermostat is a plug to stop the flow and somehow isn't with what you describe, T
