LT1 Water Pump Replacement

I have a 1996 Pontiac trans Am and need to replace the water pump on the LT1 V8 engine. Can anyone tell me if there are any tricks I need to look out for? I am going to replace the thermostat and the coolant and belt at the same time. Is there anything else I should be doing while I'm in there? Also, if any can tell me roughly how long this should take me that would be helpful. I would say I'm an intermediate at these types of things.

Funky critter and pricey too! Appears to be a modified "Chevy" V8 water pump for the application. The hurdles will be IMO - hose clamps, bolts to thermostat (stuck) and a lot of assorted items to remove out of the way to install really just FOUR primary bolts to the engine.
Haven't done one like this and the pic could be upside down. Looks like thermostat is mounted right on this pump and if that really is pointing DOWN making sure that thermostat is stuck in place while its cover is installed will be important. If what I'm thinking - I might put thermostat and gasket on while off vehicle with just (the least that will hold it) enough "gasket maker" that will hold it well in place awaiting the cover.
Use care when scraping gasket material from alloy parts as they can be damaged and this should be a DIY moderate level job,

These are not a 'fun' job to do, but with some perserverance....I would strongly recommend replacing the distributor cap and rotor while you have the water pump off. They are a bit spendy, but you sure don't want to do it again, anytime soon! Save the beer until you're done.

Thanks for the input. I did get it changed On Saturday. Wasn't too bad, but just for other's looking to do this there is a piece which confusewd me that I had to remove as it overlayed one of the bolts on the dric=vers side of the H2O pump. Threw me off for about an hour, had that not happened would have been about a 3 hour job with basic tools.
