Help with no cold air cause Sign In

1998 Ford Explorer 8cyl. I repaired a/c about 3 months ago and has been working like a charm. Wife says a couple a days ago (her car) that she started smelling like a foul musty odor and now no cold air at all. I am going to shoot some freon to it and looks for any obvious leaks but like i said, its been working like new. When I repaired it I replaced the compressor, actuator, dryer, orafice tube and had the pros flush and fill the system. Any ideas out there about the smell and what the cause maybe to give me a starting point to look? Thanks all, Randy

The smell is unrelated to the cooling problem. That is bacteria growing on the evaporator from being wet all the time. It got real noticeable as the temp warmed. You can eliminate that by spraying Lysol directly on the evaporator if you can get access to it.

The fact that you lost cooling just means the problem was misdiagnosed on the first repair and it still has a leak that wasn't found the first time or something was assembled incorrectly causing a new leak. If you put dye in the system the first time, then you can look for it with a UV light.
