Heater blows cold Sign In

I have a 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis and the heater/ac blows at the same temp COLD. Which in San Antonio, isn't a problem now, but I froze my butt off last February. Crazy

From reading I think it might be the blend air door, but what I'm not sure about is how extensive of a repair this is. Is it something a husband & wife team fairly new to diy jobs could complete with a manual? Is it an expensive repair to have done at a shop?

I don't think it's a blend door. That would be a tough job.

Is the A/C staying on when you ask for heat? That would be a different problem like maybe the control head, T

It does stay on. The Ford/Mercury temp controls don't have separate buttons for heat and cool, rather a button to change the actual temp warmer or colder. No matter what temp I put the system on it blows on its coldest setting.

Re: Heater blows cold Sign In

remove the glove box and look toward the middle front of car. There is a small electric motor there that controls the blend door. Reach up in there and hold the motor while changing the temperature and check to see f you can feel the motor moving. if it is moving, look under it with a small flashlight---almost no room----and see if the door is moving. If door does not move, replace the blend door actuator. Yes you can replace it.
Space is at a premium in there so go slow and take your time. Ford says to remove the dash cover, but it can be done without removal of dash. Good luck and let us know

Re: Heater blows cold Sign In

I am having the same problems with my air conditioner. The Mercury shop tells me that it will cost over $580.00 labor to take off the dash cover to reach the $65.00 blend door.

My questions are: Is there a blend door and an blend door actuator or they the same thing? How many hours are given to do the job in a shop manual labor guide if they take the dash off to do the job? How many hours are given to do the job in a shop manual labor guide if they change the door/actuator from under the dash?

Is there more information about replacing the door from under the dash than was given here?

Thanks!
