Heater Problems

1997 Mercury Mountaineer AWD 5.0 V-8. Heater controls not working properly. Stuck on hot no matter the setting. Need information on Electrical and Vacuum System to diagnose the problem. It could be the switch but I don't wish to throw money and parts at the Auto to possibly fix the problem I want to be sure is nthere a relay and where the owners manual shows none.

I think this uses a heater control valve for hot water incoming (inlet hose) to regulate heat. It might be stuck open. I'd try unplugging it and see if there's a change for now. If so if may be the issue - not sure what the default is for it but wouldn't guess full heat but might be??

The coolant valve is new and operates fine I need to know if there is a selonoid that controls the Vacuum to the valve for the reostat is electrical. Also need to know if there is a relay controling this system and where it may be located at and if there is a way to test the wireing for power at the switch to see if the switch may be bad the switch is electrical and is there a control selonoid controling the temp control electrical over vacuum to see if it is bad also. It may be just the control Switch but to know that I need to be able to jumper the wires in the plug to rule out the switch but if I have no power there I need to backtrace the wires to find the relay or fuse or broken wire that may cause this condition. If its Vacuum then I need to know where the selonoid/valve is located at to look for restiction or bad Valve or leak no leaking sound is apparent. Thank You

The heater control valve is closed by a vacuum signal when the A/C is turned on. If you are not getting vacuum at that point, start looking for a vacuum leak.
The blend doors are also activated by vacuum, but if your system is using a heater control valve, that is what controls the hot water entering the heater core.

The Heater Valve is operating fine no Vacuum Leak It is not in the A/C system its in the blend door system and I need to know how the electrical control switch is controling the vacuum to the blend door actuator for that is where the problem lies. Thank You

The heater problems can be solved by using proper coolants in the engine.
