I have a 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 4.7 liter and I relpaced the thermostat and the heat works just fine. I went shopping and then all of sudden the heater stop blowing hot air. It work on low but no other speeds. I replaced the thermostat again and same problem. You think it could be a bad heater core?

Heater core shouldn't have plugged quite that quick. What was the reason for the first thermostat replacement?

If heater worked for a while or before all this then I think you may find it's low on coolant and still settling down purging itself of air. Try to verify it's filled at the radiator or highest hose if no cap on this radiator. Cycles of warm up and cool downs should purge out air and could be low now but was ok for a short time,

The problem started after I had my intake manifold replaced. The heat was working just fine and then all of a sudden it stopped. I replaced the thermostat and the heat work just fine. After driving vehicle for 2 hrs stopping at multiple stores, the heat stop working again. This time I could some heat on low speed, but nothing but cool air on higher speeds. I repl, aced the thermostat once again and this time nothing. You think it could be I could have an air pocket in the system? or could it be a bad heater core/ radiator. Please help. I am freezeing in my vehicle. I really dont want to share rides with my wife after sharing one car for one month.

Every time coolant is removed (drained) for any service or repair you have to make sure it's really filled up again. Any air will purge out and if the system is fine the recovery tank would be a correct measure of how full you are but not until all is stable. I don't know how long or who has checked what when things were done to it.

The deal with it working on low fan is there's only so much heat available and blowing more air thru limited warm/hot coolant will blow cooler air if that's the case at all. Just need to know it's full for now.

If the manifold job made a lot of debris scraping gaskets then the heater core might have caught too much and would flush out. I can only guess at what was done already - was it flushed when manifold gasket job was done? Did that solve the problem - a leak or what did that show up as? Serious overheats?

Again - the core wouldn't just plug up so easy or fast in most cases and simple flushing would show how well it can flow thru it. The ones that need to be replaced and don't flush out are usually a crusty build up over some time that just won't move along OR overdoing leak stop additives will plug them up - is that a possibility?

Sorry for lots of questions but need to know the state of the thing right now with the cooling system not just the heater. Does engine run at a steady temp and coolant stays properly filled? That's a good starting point........
