I purchasesd a 2002 Grand Prix Gt about 6 months ago. The heat dosent get hot. When I have the defroster on it heats up just a little bit, but can still see my breath when I blow. Also when I try using the vents they blow out cold air. Also when I turn up my heat blower past 3 it makes a humming noise. Engine size is a V6, 3800. Mileage is 128,900. It had 124,000 in November when I bought the car.

The engine temperature is critical for the heater to work properly. If the thermostat is not closing or if it's the incorrect temp, the engine won't reach normal operating temperature. That will also affect fuel economy if it is running too cool. If the engine is running in the neighborhood of 200F and the heater still isn't hot, you may have a blend door problem. The blend door(s) allow heat into the cab of the vehicle and are operated by vacuum. So, the first step is to ensure the engine is gettting to optimum temp. Then, check the heater hoses, inlet and outlet to make sure they are of even temp (that will tell you if you are getting flow through the heater core). Loren SW Washington
