Ford ranger a/c compressor Sign In

Hey guys,
We have a 1999 ford ranger. You can turn on a/c and at idle speed the temp. will hold around 40 degrees, low side psi 30 at 100 degrees outside air. suction lines are sweating
great. Will continue this way until you start driving the vehicle or otherwise raise RPMs then the compressor disengages and will not come back on until vehicle is turned off, then the whole process starts again. Any thoughts on this one? Thanks it's hot out here!

What's the high side pressure when this happens?

Have you monitored the power feed to the compressor to see if it's losing power or the clutch is just losing strength.

It could also be temp related. Fords will shut off the A/C when they get hot or if the TPS is shorting to power, the relay will cut out.

You only mention low side pressure, which makes me think you're using the gauge that came with a bottle of 134a. What has been done to this truck previously? Did you add any refrigerant to this and if so was it pure or the stuff with leak sealer in it (referred to by techs as the Death Kit)?
