My A/C compressor clicks on and off constantly. Plenty refrigerant but compressor won't run long enough to cool.

ostarter; I don't mean to question you, but rapid cycling of the compressor is classic signs of low refrigerant. How are you checking refrigerant levels? Possibly, faulty pressure switch?

YMM would help. What pressures are you seeing now when compressor is on or off?

Thanks for the quick response. My refrigerant pressure indicates 45 on the gauge and it would'nt take more.

45 psi. with the compressor engaged sounds a bit high, to me. Where's Tom when I need him? Wink

45 PSI means nothing if you don't say if that's with compressor on or off. Outer plate turning that's a bit high for pressure. If you are using a single gauge "death kit" as they are called then throw it out as they are well knows to be off 20psi or more. If off the system is near empty. Post both high and low pressures while compressor is engaged or we are wasting time in a non performing system. Low only is ok with some if they were working,
