Dual zone A/C not working up front Sign In

2005 Suburban with about 135k. 5.3L. When we bought it about 10 months ago the A/C worked great (for wintertime). But starting back in June, when we turned on the A/C, the back of the cabin got nice and cold, but the front just blew regular air. I tried checking the pressure in the refrigerant and added some, but it didn't help. If I turn the blower on hot, it gets nice and hot, so I don't think it's the evaporator. It doesn't seem to be the compressor or the condenser because the line is shared with the back evaporator until right at the firewall where it splits. Not sure what to look at. I assume because I don't have the right tools to discharge the A/C system, I'll need to take it in. If I do, what do you think they'll find and what would you guess the cost to be at?

Thanks!

Hammer, bring out the crystal ball again! We got another one..Tongue

Maybe they'll find that it is low on refrigerant. If it is, they may ask you if you would like to recharge and dye the system. Not sure how much it will cost or what the problem is, but I am sure they will give you an estimate when they determine the fault.

Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

My friend said it was most likely low on refrigerant, and that the little meters that come with the cans at the stores are horrible and inaccurate. It does seem to stand to reason since the out feed to the back is under and the feed to the front is on top. Good thing is I can put that off until next summer Wink

You need to stop listening to your friend. He's going to cause a lot of damage to your truck. First, you should never simply add refrigerant to a system because it requires a specific amount of charge and there is no way of knowing how much you are starting with without removing it all and vacuuming the system and starting from scratch.

The next thing is that is not a dual zone system. That's a front and and auxiliary system. A dual zone is one that has left and right temp controls.

If you are getting cold air in the rear, then you likely have either a restricted orifice tube or a problem with the blend air temperature door system in the front. Try pinching off the heater hose going into the front and see if the temp drops any.
