Dealership didn't fix the problem Sign In

I had my 2003 Dodge Caravan's AC worked on at the dealership. The problem began as the AC not blowing cold while parked or in slow driving situations and over 3 weeks went out completely. They replaced the compressor and the expansion valve 3.5 weeks ago. 3 days ago I started to feel less cold air everyday. I am assuming there is a leak and a slow leak would likely take a while to be noticeable inside the car. I have made an appointment to have it looked at again on Monday. I am assuming they are going to try to call this a separate issue and charge me another deductible on my warranty coverage to repair what I believe they didn't fix in the first place.

Can anyone justify either my concerns or justify their pending explanation that this is a separate event.

Thanks for any advice on this matter.

I can feel you disamay but hang in there. The majority of all A/C problems is low to no refrigerant due to a leak that could be anywhere in the system that must seal in the gas.

With the first round the compressor may have had the leak itself and I'm not sure why they did the expansion valve but there's another place that can leak. So far no problem and they would have in the course of the repairs put the system under a state of vacuum and hopefully waited a pretty standard 1/2 hour or more to see if it holds and if so proceed to charge up with refrigerant. Something worked because it worked when you got it back.

Now there's the question of sealing problems with the parts they replaced causing a leak now or a new one. It's all about leaking again from what you describe. It could be a new leak or it could be something wrong with what they did parts or the producures.

Like so many things you have to trust someone. Leaks could happen any time with new or old cars not unlike tires and nails you just don't know when you'll catch one. You noticed the rapid decline in performance so this leak is considered FAST and those are easier to find. Leaks that take a whole year are a pill - trust me!

The part up front with the raditor is called a condenser and takes the air in thru it first. Those can get road debris or even a big bug can cause a leak.

Nobody wants their work to fail but stuff happens. I just hope they are honest with you as it wouldn't be difficult with this or many other things in repairs to just make a story up. I seriously doubt the warranty will pay again for the same work and just hope that honesty is the policy as it should be,

that valve is a h valve and as two gaskets ask your tech. if he is putting in dye problem with a vacuum is some times is can pull stuff together making finding leak harder
