Coolant smell coming out of vents When AC is not on Sign In

Coolant smell coming out of vents When AC is not on clouds of air come out of vents Went to 235 degrees (I believe, wife was driving) then cloud came out with AC on and oil gage bounced around (not sure how much, wife driving). Believe I need new Heater Core or just byass for now. Fear may have blown head gasket. Praying I my fears are not true and that I can bypass \'til winter. What are my options and what do i look for when i drive it to check it out for myself? Where can i get instructions to take off my dash when its time to replace the hearter core and instructions to bypass the core for now? Thanks for your time and input. Ben

Sounds like heater core, smells like a heater core. By pass the two hoses which are different sizes but clamping them down will work for now. Check coolant level and feel for pressure building up way to quick from cold which is NOT a good sign and would lead to a head gasket problem.

You can use a deep socket that has passage thru it for a by pass or a hardware store for a barbed connector but let it flow thru as some are important that they flow.

Hey -- call me if need be, Tom
