Chevy Uplander Sign In

My 2006 Uplander(3.9liter) Does not kick out much heat when at idle. While driving down the road the temperature from the air vents will almost burn the back of my fingers, but when I stop the car and idle the air is almost cold/(well cool). When I have the engine race up to 2500RPM the heat starts flowing again. Any ideas if there is a sensor that needs to be replaced or what? The temp gage on the dash seems normal. THANKS Sid

Re: Chevy Uplander Sign In

?? RPM only makes this change? That would be consistant with a water pump that doesn't pump enough coolant but then I'd expect temp gauge fluxuations too?? That or the cooling system isn't truly full of coolant. Must be full in the radiator and engine without air and if this doesn't have a pressure cap on the radiator it's a trick to know it's full. System may show that it doesn't hold pressure on its own or with a pressure tester when cold.

So far I'm suspecting the true coolant level is inadequate or full of air and not some sensor quite yet. It's possible that engine temp is satisfied with it low and the heater is not,

Re: Chevy Uplander Sign In

I just bought a 2008 Uplander and it has the same problem. I am north of Dallas. We had our first cold snap. Went to warm up the van to melt the ice on the windows. It would not get warm. Race the engine and the vents blew HOT. When you stop at a stop sign the heat drops DRAMATICALLY... Move on down the road and the heat is fine.

Coolant is full. Did you ever get a solution?

I do have warranty so I will be going to Chevy. Just wanted a clue if anyone had one before going.

THanks

Mark

Does the gauge drop as well or just the heat felt coming out? If heat on gauge moves to colder then in this new a vehicle the thermostat isn't shutting tightly - stuff happens new or not,
