What are you planning to charge it with? That is an R12 system. That's why the fitting is different so the refrigerants don't get mixed. The system has to be retrofit to R134A before it can be charged which means removing all R12 oil left in the system and replace it with Pag oil and changing the charge fittings. Some cars need additional fans added too. This isn't a DIY type job. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

If you are staying R-12 which I strongly suggest, the adaptor for high side needs to go from 3/16th to 1/4 NPT. Lower left of this page shows what it looks like.......... http://www.acsource.com/...serviceadapters.aspx As HT said they did that so you wouldn't mix them up. Don't leave the adaptor on as it could become a source for a leak. Same store at that site has a low price gauge set that will do either R-12 or 134a but for GM and Fords for many years you needed a high side adaptor still. Didn't Ford use a different one than GM and many others they were the same. Just ask at any real parts store or tool truck for the high side GM adaptor. If going or using 134a you need both which are available anywhere then it's standard for all "Acme" quick connects - high side is larger with those so they aren't mixed up, T

Let me make it clear. You cannot simply change the fittings and put R134 in it. It has to be retrofit first.
