Blend air door--- quick fix??? Sign In

Drove to gulfport ms from little rock this weekend. left at 4 am, about 8 am lost ac. Called dealer, described what happened, was told needed to replace blend air door. Was fri afternoon, could not do it till next week. Later car died at stop sign, Loose wire on positive terminal, opened hood and shoved wire back in, it caused a spark. Started car and drove off. Tried AC (like I did everytime I got in car), it was working! When I turned it off, turned it back on, ac did not work. It did not work the rest of weekend. Right before I started back home, loosened positive terminal, pulled out wire, got in car and turned it on, it had electricty, then went dead. Pushed wire back into positive terminal, it sparked, AC worked! Did not turn car home until pulled into house in Little Rock, had AC all the way home! There are 2 wires going to my Positive terminal, one appears to be a main wire, the other is some type of secondary wire. The secondary wire is the one I am discussing. I am not a mechanic in any terms!! Was searching net for a way to get home with AC and get it repaired when I get home. Found nothing. Maybe I stumbled on something? BTY- driving 98 Ford Crown Vic.

It's pretty clear that the first thing you have to do is repair the bad cable end and then see if you still have other problems. You can't just "stick it in" and expect it to work.

I believe the positive battery cable in whole is an assembly on that car. Not all that cheap or easy if nuts at starter are corroded. It's not just an eyelet end at the starter if I recall so more is going on there with the cable itself which must be dealt with as Hammer said. Stinks not having A/C but walking is worse,

the ac is working now, Turned off car last night, turned it back on, still working. Tried this am, is still working. Any idea what is going on? Did the ford dealer get it wrong about the bland door being broken? Have repaired the terminals, but AC is still working fine.

Kinda hard to say about the original diagnosis of blend door itself as it's working now. It's still possible?? Just fooling with the battery cable end seemed to matter and it could be temporarily fixed. In that you had to touch that at all it's priority ONE and if the A/C issue never happens again forget it.

You can get just an "QUALITY'' end spliced in cable end. It should be about $10-15 bucks or it's the cheap crap not for permanent use.

Do spray at least WD-40 on the starter connections now and then so at least if those have to come off they have a good chance of not breaking and the WD-40 will slow to stop further corrosion but has to be repeated periodically.

Don't ignore that cable end or the other one either or you'll be walking,

The dealer can't possibly diagnose your car over the phone. To give you the impression that they can is very irresponsible of them. The guy you talked to isn't even a technician. He is just a service writer and nothing else. Broken blend doors may a be a common problem on your vehicle but only a fool would attempt too diagnose it over the phone. You have most likely repaired your problem already by repairing the battery cable.
