Amount of PAG oil when replacing condenser and drier Ford Taurus Sign In

I have an 08 Ford Taurus SEL, and the condenser has a bad leak that I found with UV dye. So now I am going to replace the condenser and drier. Per info online, it seems the total system pag oil amount is 7 oz. I am wondering how much oil to add when replacing these two components. I was just going to guess and add 2 oz as it seems to not be much information out there on this Taurus. But then I found one site, on supercool.com ( see link below ) where I can key in the 08 Taurus SEL....and this site seems to indicate 4+ oz when replacing these two components. Seems like a lot to me given system is only 7 oz.

Any advice??? I would appreciate it.

Link didn't work for me doesn't matter it's a wild guess unless you start from zero.

With that dump what you get out of items, heated, drilled and add 2oz a leak who knows except by the mess if that much.

Items that just sit holding oil are lower in system of course.

Just make sure upon start up after all parts done and ready you add oil upstream or at least some so compressor doesn't instantly croak.

Risks if you don't do it all understood it's costly or impractical for most know it's a gamble now should end up quiet and performing or back to it right away condensers are disposable you don't fix them if each attempt - your call,

Tom

The general rule of thumb was always 2 ounces per component replaced although the condenser is the one component that tends to lose more oil.

I would say you are probably safe going in the middle with 3 ounces. It's a best estimate type situation anyway.

I like that. What is probably unknown if anything done before unless know from new? Just my FYI as over years + tons of this if overfilled with oil performance is erratic by speed and long higher speed curves.

Most will tolerate if 7oz was OE from empty 2oz over you wouldn't notice but too much twice or more AYOR with this stuff choke a compressor hope the belt busts or slips! Tom

Re: Amount of PAG oil when replacing condenser and drier Ford Taurus Sign In

Thanks for all the advice. Like you guys are saying, it is a crapshoot unless you flush the system, which is something I have not ever done before nor was thinking of doing since the car is older with a ton of miles. Just fyi...No a/c component was ever replaced on this car since new.

So the supercool.ac website, in the Resources>Lubricant Specification Guide says..."2 oz" of oil for Condenser Replacement and "Add same amount of oil drained plus 2 oz (60 ml)" for Accumulator replacement. But who knows if it is even close to correct.

As far as draining the components, I think I could just drill a hole in bottom of old drier, and see if anything comes out. But is there really a way of draining the condenser given all the tubes?

I could go with 3oz, or maybe 4 oz maybe based on what you're saying.

I really like the advice, and I don't mind the guesswork since it is an old car and I don't mind a little trial and error.

It matters no need to ruin anything by not asking or looking elsewhere. There's no dipstick - same if some other thing you'd empty it fill to a known.

Condensers bust sometime a lot just a stone from roads - poof there goes another one. Some cheaper some nasty this one should be OK.

Good luck - this A/C thing isn't for everyone if it doubt ask, get help as you can destroy whole show $$$$ doing it way wrong, Tom
