AC work intermittently on 2001 Taurus

Our daughters 2001 Taurus has an AC issues sometimes it work as far as being cold and other times it wont cool down and it will also just stop blowing cool air and blow warm air and ideas???

That could be caused by a few things. Any history as to what has if anything been done to A/C on this car?
It could be low refrigerant, too much refrigerant, dirty condenser, fan not working properly or at all, clutch air gap too large among several things.
How many miles in what climate is the used in?
