AC not working at all

I have a 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan. The AC doesn't work already. I live in Michigan. I went to one shop and they told me that the compressor and condenser is shot from the front to the back and everything needs to be replaced for only $1700! How can this AC be broken. I've only used it in the summer so actually it's only been 2 years (4 summers) so what would cause it to break? This is too much for me to pay. Any suggestions?

The component of A/C are sealing in high pressure gas and can leak out and fail without notice. You really should seek out a shop that specializes or at least does a lot of A/C work and expect some things to be costly and sometimes surprised that it's something simple. Diagnosing a system that doesn't work at all is guessing unless some serious diagnostics were done to tell you what it needs, T
