AC blowing warm air Sign In

2006 Pontiac G6. The AC is blowing warm air. In looking under the hood with the Max AC on, I can definitely tell the clutch for the compressor is not engaging, but I don't know much beyond that. Not hearing any strange noises or anything, but then the compressor isn't engaging so that's not a surprise.

What's the most likely case here...low freon? blown fuse? Condensor issue? I know a lot of things can cause the clutch to not engage. I'm REALLY hoping that the compressor doesn't need to be replaced. Any advice or tips before I take it in would be greatly appreciated.

Re: AC blowing warm air Sign In

leave it for a professional - a quickie refill DIY kit often creates more problems than solutions.. DO not go jumping wires to get it to engage.

ANYWAY:
Check for codes - With a active code, the PCM (computer) MAY restrict AC engagement. Then check AC pressure bth HIGH side and LOW side.. After those 2 checks the diagnosing begins NOT a guessing game.

A SWAG- low REFRIGERANT,
PS- Its no longer Freon

Thanks...I'm planning to go to a Pro, I don't really trust myself doing any of the diagnosis tips.

Just crossing my fingers the compressor isn't shot

Re: AC blowing warm air Sign In

You are doing the right thing and so far no clue if a compressor is SHOT! Relax till it's diagnosed - many reasons compressor's don't engage from almost NBD to a real mess. Idea is just don't make it worse playing with it with refrigerant as said,
