AC Running While Off - Odd Noises Sign In

2010 Honda Civic 2.0 w/ 377k miles. Here's timeline of my issue. Thanks in advance.

- While car idles for about 45 minutes, it shakes several times when fan goes on and off and almost stalls once or twice.

- Hour later, car blowing cool air as if AC on low though hot outside, and both AC and fan off.

- Half hour later, while at Red light, loud hissing noise and steam coming from under hood.

- AC seems to run, can be heard while turned off, though sound is not that healthy.  Cool air smells musty.

- Cold air continues to come out of vents for next two hours, even when AC off, more so when driving fast or actually turned on.

- Check engine light OFF, temp gauge normal.  No apparent leaks. Car been displaying P0128 code intermittently for 16 months but not currently.

Most newer cars are wired so you can't turn off the AC compressor, even when heat is on because it removes moisture from the air.

It sounds like you have some other issues going on. First think is to check all the fluid levels, especially the coolant level in the radiator, not just the reservoir.

If it's not coolant doing the hissing, the AC compressor may be blowing off high pressure refrigerant which could be a serious problem.

That's quite true - A/C is never disabled totally. If it hissed refrigerant it would never make cool air by now IMO?

Do you have a history on this car with 377,000 miles? If somehow an original it's way past a lot for anything or 2nd third time around with lots of things?

Same non tricks don't ignore A/C its default is to quit the car's engine may really be too hot - deal with that FIRST or you won't have that engine long seem this car has been there - done anything already if solid be ready to do it again,
