AC - Stopped working.

AC - Stopped working. Sign In

'04 Nissan Maxima. AC worked one day stopped working from then on (couple weeks ago). What are the first things to look for? Thanks guys.

gmq; Look to see if the compressor engages when you turn on the A/C. If it doesn't, the first thing to check would be fuses. The system has a low pressure switch which will keep the compressor from engaging if the system is low on refrigerant. If it's low, then there is a leak.

To add: Some 65% of no cooling is due to a leak. If all in one day it would seem like a fast blowout somewhere and would/should have left oily residue. A stilly stone can bust thru condenser anytime and system will shut down.

It's important to check this out asap and fix fast as oils used if exposed to air will become acidic! Not good.

Check the stuff as Loren suggested and try to take at least a "static" pressure reading. If lower in PSI than the temp in F. or zero act fast.

Some chain parts outlets rent for free (100% deposits) real gauges if you don't have any yet and want to do some or all of the work,
