Hi, MAKE/MODEL: 2003 Accord EX 4 door Sedan 2.3L, 84,000 miles I'm at a bit of a loss as to what I should do so I wondered if any of you could help me. I read that the 2003 accord has an exposed A/C condenser which is easily hit and fractured by pebbles which can results in a leak. So A/C stopped blowing any cold air at all. When I turn the fan on I don't hear the compressor/condenser or anything engage. In Memphis, TN.. this is torture with no A/C. day 1:Jiffy Lube: There was no freon in the system. Had it recharged - compressor still wouldn't turn over day 2: Auto shop: No freon left 24 hours later, obviously a leak. Shop I took it to recommended new compressor/clutch + receiver drier for a grand total of $1300. Could either of the above components being faulty result in a leak? I read the compressor clutch does not turn on if there is insufficient pressure? Should I get a second opinion or buy the parts elsewhere and get someone to install them? I don't trust the shop I went to Thanks for your help, I'm completely retarded with anything mechanical

If you have any question at all about that shop then by all means get a second opinion. A/C is probably the most mis-diagnosed repair done on a car these days. The problem is that you don't know it was mis-diagnosed until you have paid for everything and all the refrigerant leaks out again. Yes, the compressor can be the source of the leak but so can many other things. I would ask the shop to demonstrate the method they used to find the leak so you can see for your self. They need to either detect U/V dye or use a refrigerant leak detector that will continue to repeat the finding every time the spot is tested. Make sure you use a shop that does a lot of A/C work. Everybody says they are experts but few are. Let me give you one tip now. NEVER use Jiffy Lube for A/C repairs ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Thanks for your reply both of you, I REALLY appreciate it. The blower fan inside works perfectly. The guy who refilled it originally just said the compressor wasn't engaging once it was refilled. 24 hours later the system was empty again.. maybe a combination of faulty compressor + a leak? Also, they quoted me $620 for a new compressor alone, I found one on ebay for $200 inc p&p - any disadvantage to OEM compressor?

Just a quick heads up OEM or OE is an acronym for factory/dealer parts.... Original Equipment Manufacturer.... Original Equipment... I would make sure someone isn't playing word games and using OEM as a brand name for a a cheap rebuild product. Factory OE parts is the way to go........ A cheap rebuild called OEM, I would stay away from...
