i have a 95 chevy c1500 truck the a/c will not work properly. i have three controls for the heat a/c. fan dial temp dial and vent dial. my problem is my push button a/c switch turns (light comes on)on when the fan is on the off position. but when i turn the fan on the light goes out. the compressor will not engage at all unless i jump the switch that detects low pressure in the lines. but still will have the same problem with the a/c switch. also if i turn the fan dial on high or med. it will automatically go to the defrost vents no matter which setting i put it on. any suggestions?

Hmmm? The common denominator here is that fan switch and if not too pricey worth a try. The only item that control head that says "off" is the fan and without the diagram to see it must (witnessed on other similar) intiate/allow all other funtions. It's not surprising that in a failure that it defaults to defrost. I'm pretty sure electronic actuators and spring loaded to be at "defrost" mode and empowered to do anything else. Note: Low pressure switch jumping is ok for a quick test or other reasons but don't leave that jumped - it must be able to shut down under low pressure conditions, T
