I have a 2002 pontiac sunfire. The A/C only works when the car is idling in Park. The car will surge when in drive and just idling. Sometimes the A/C works when driving as long as you are not accelerating.

Are you referring to the air flow through the vents or the temp of the air? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

I apologize, I am referring to the temperature of the air. It only blows cold air when in park...or sometimes when driving if I'm not accelerating.

Have you checked to see if the compressor is running when the problem occurs? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

I haven't. I think I can trust my wife to not let off the brake while the car is in gear:)

Watch for the center part of the pulley to be turning. The out pulley will always be turning.

Hammer; I'm not an A/C guy, but what about loss of vacuum to the blend doors? Just a thought. Loren SW Washington

Another guess w/o pressures posted. This can be the results of overcharged system. Has it been messed with refrigerant wise since it last worked properly? T

Electric blend doors? Told you I wasn't an A/C guy. LOL. What will they think of next? Geeez. Had a '49 Cadillac in with hydraulic power windows and top. We got 'em all working. Nothing should suprise me, anymore. Loren SW Washington

Ford and some GM's have been using electric blend door motors for over 20 years. The mode and recirc doors are the only ones still using vacuum. This particular one is a cable though.

Face it Loren and speaking for myself, by the time I get my head that far up under a dash to see what's used you need to call 911 for the "jaws of life" to get me back out - LMAO. Ain't gettin' old fun? Yes - hydraulic window motors, vacuum wiper motors, door locks, trunk releases and the list goes on! T
