A/C not working Sign In

Hello,
I have a 1998 Chevy Malibu V-6 with 136,000 miles on it. The A/C stopped working. The indicator light comes on, but the compressor doesnt. I check the fuses in the fusebox and they are good. Is there a thermal type of fuse near the compressor somewhere like the older model GM vehicles?

No, they did away with that thermal limiter switch over 20 years ago.

These compressors are turned on and off by the computer and it looks at various inputs before giving the command.

Here is the wiring diagram you will need to troubleshoot it.

Re: A/C not working Sign In

It's still used in some! Not a Chevy TMK - Cadillac uses a "thermistor"

The whole thread is messed up as we don't have so much as a static pressure on the system! 2/3 rds of all low or no cooling problems are low charge from a leak,

Re: A/C not working Sign In

Thermal limiters and thermistors are entirely different. The thermal limiter was an inline fuse used on the A6 compressor. Thermistors are narrow band temperature sensors that are commonly used in the automotive trade.

Right - but we are almost certainly barking up the wrong tree. Bet this simply doesn't have the minimum charge for compressor to engage,
