A/C compressor helpful tips

Any helpful hints on removing / replacing a/c compressor for my 1998 explorer, 5.0 8cyl.? Manual again foggy on this. I am getting ready to start but wanted any last minute tips I may get. The power steering reservoir is mounted just above comp. and all kind of lines and cables in the way.
Also not clear on where old oil is poured out from. New comp. shipped w/o oil so I have to add. I assume comes out of the hole where the a/c lines connect in the rear. Only place I could see. Thanx, Randy

Also having a hell of a time with spring lock tool removing accumulator and orifice tube....Easy things.....Maybe I need to stop til tomorrow.........

Spin a compressor to get and measure oil out of old and refill wilh what it came with or new yet again plus a little.
Douse spring locks with WD-40 or stronger. They are a pill and require a tool to remove. One click and they are back on no problem but coming apart is another story with those.
I suggest evac system too slightly pos pressure and seal off open lines as best u can,

Oops.......sry Tom didn't see your reply. Guess my memory aint the only thing going anymore these days......damn.......
And you said the same thing with a fraction of the words I used.........guess thats why you get the big bucks......

Thanks guys, just had to work with them a while and wd-40 worked ok. Not to mention one of spring lock tool was a fraction off.... got another set and worked fine. So I got the the accumulator/ drier/ and orifice tube changed ok......,
Now the compressor... you think they could put any more obstacles in the way!!? This is a 98 explorer w/5.0, 2wd.... all kinds of stuff in the way, ..ie...power steering components, hoses, wires, radiator hard lines....any helpful hints would be appreciated.... Thanx, Randy

I really have to laugh at that. The Explorer is probably one of the easiest compressors to change. Wait until you try a Northstar Cadillac or some of the V6 Taurus's.

Randy! Got to laugh as I hate the flicking things! There should be a kit color coded with the right sizes. They are a PITA on a good day but I suppose there are better tools then others too for this. Common cheap set available anywhere. If I wasn't retired from this "mal-de-cul" biz I'd seek out something that worked better than the plastic whooosies.
Bet Snap-On has something for $400 bucks that makes them easy - never asked.
I do find WD-40 or even carb cleaner first to clean the damn things then as said PB has some magic in it that frees up stuff I never thought would free up in Rusto-Chusetts!
BTW - if still true you can use the spray tip from the brand Gumout on the PB can so it doesn't go all over the friggin' place! Dang PB is no doubt dangerous to painted stuff and why they don't make it with a tube sprayer for accuracy I'll never know.
BTWII- There are other annoying things with the same spring lock idea all over some cars! Fuel lines, trans lines, fuel filters - the list goes on.
DIY anything just ain't what it used to be! Even Kitty is ticked with some designs and quit this stuff over it!
