2002 Lexus SC430 A/C blowing hot air- car has 68,000 miles, dealer says compressor piston worn out. Does that sound reasonable?

Could be, but there isn't enough information that you provided to conclude it would be something like that. There are a lot of things that can cause poor ac cooling. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

I moved this to the AC forum Pretty much anything that goes wrong with an AC system, the result is warm air so unless you have the specifics that led them to that conclusion we can't tell you much. PS: What is an SC439 anyway. Maybe SC430? I haven't had the honor of working on something like that. The highest I got so far is LS400. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

About everything.......... High and low pressure readings at idle and 2000RPM pipe temps on suction and liquid lines. Exact weight of charge how much air flow across the condenser and those things may raise other questions. I did not look at the report but am having a hard time believing this compressor has worn out at 68K miles.

You can ruin a compressor in 1,000 miles under the right circumstances. That would be the other part of the question is, what took out the compressor. They need to also find the cause of the failure. Normally they don't unless there is a problem with the system that is causing the compressor to overheat or they become damaged from lack of lubrication. Don't know the particulars of that compressor, but it might be one of those variable displacement compressors in which system pressures determine its displacement. At idle, low side 120 and high side 250, at 2K rpm, low side 90 and high side 250. Suction and liquid lines at underhood temps, outlet temps at ambient which was 80-85 in the shop. Both cooling fans were working and condenser was sprayed with water with no difference noted on pressures

Yep, sounds like the compressor is wasted.
