2002 Winnebago Sightseer, Ford V-10 chassis, 47K miles

I have a problem in that the vehicle A/C system looses freon over the course of about three or four months. My mechanic thinks that the leak is in the condenser coil but he doesn't see how access to the area can be achieved without tearing apart the dashboard. And that is only to gain access to the coil in order to diagnose the problem. He recommends charging the system at the beginning of the season. I have seen can of freon and also an A/C system sealer in the car area of Walmart and wondered whether (1) recharging is a good do-it-yourself project and (2) whether the sealer would be a good idea. Any advice is appreciated.

First of all, the condenser is not in the dash, it's in front of the radiator. I would forget about the sealer. All that stuff will do is plug up the system and everyboody's recovery equipment. You just need to change the leaking parts.

Sorry. I meant "evaporator." That is in the dash, I think. Anyway, thanks for the advise.

Most evaps would be in the dash of an orig Ford chassis. Ditto on the sealer - bite the bullet and pay to fix it. Be sure it's leaking there and you aren't getting fooled as it is labor intensive.

IMO - sealer attempts should be reserved for last ditch try on systems that won't be fixed if it doesn't work and marked as they can destroy service equipment so mark the vehicle if used please. They can but the next repair could be a whole system depending on sealer used as some react to exposure to air so if a rock went thru your condenser (front item) then it could mess up EVERYTHING!
