A/C Not working Sign In

I have a 97 2dr tahoe and the a/c unit will not light up the recycle or ac switch on the dash. It will however move the air flow up and down in the cab. In addition the clutch would not engage but when twelve volts was applied it came on. All fuses are good and when I added a can of freon the clutch began cycling but no lights on the ac or recycle switch. What have I overlooked?

If it's an auto temp control system you might try disconnecting the battery. It sounds like it may have set a low refrigerant code and shut down. It probablyt needs to be recharged and look for the leak.

Re: A/C Not working Sign In

The system is not an auto temp system. I replace the dash switch module and added one can of freon and the clutch at least cycles now but no lights and it doesnt seem to be cooler. Could the switch under the passenger side dash have any relation to the lights not coming on? I am good at wiring and have even replaced the plug that notoriously get hots and tends to melt over time. Any suggestions?

If adding refrigerant is getting results, finish charging the system with the proper amount and then worry about the lights.

Re: A/C Not working Sign In

I haven't seen a single pressure or temp mentioned in this thread! Aimlessly blasting in refrigerant is nuts without knowing what it should be at what temperatures. If you overcharge it cooling will first fade in performance if all else was fine then up to and including possible damage but would usually quit again at some point,

I advised him to charge it with the "proper amount". That means complete evacuate and recharge.
