A/C Clutch won't kick in 04 Acura TL Sign In

I have a 2004 Acura TL that has been working great and cooling very well. Last week I was idling for about 1/2 hour with the A/C on and I turned off the car and later that day when I went to start, the A/C appeared to start but didn't cool. Here is what I checked:

1. When I turn on the system, the condensor fan kicks on and adjustment in the engine rpm is heard.
2. Checking the pressure on the low when the A/C is on high/cool shows way into the red.
3. The clutch is not turning the compressor or doesn't appear to be.
4. none of the hoses are cool.
5. There is no engaging or disengaging of any kind.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Bryan

Re: A/C Clutch won't kick in 04 Acura TL Sign In

Pressure reading is just a static pressure when compressor is not engaged and reading is just similar to taking tire pressures.

The clutch not engaging is likely due to excessive air gap at the clutch. Ways to test would be - key on, engine off but A/C requested and tap on the clutch and see if it snaps to engage or if you can be careful try that with it running but expect it to start up and spin so use something like a small rubber hammer or hose to tap on it and watch out for the moving parts! If that kicks it into action the gap can be adjusted closer to engage. Most gaps should be .020 or less but not rubbing. If no gauge, a folded biz card would be too tight and unfolded should be close to the spec but fit right in.

If nothing, then see if 12v power is getting to the plug at the clutch and we can go from there,

T
