2006 Chevrolet Silverado, V-6, 120,000

A/C Fan/blower was making small noises when we got the truck. Last week the fan just stopped working. The next time we tried it it worked, then it quit again. We changed the speed on the knob and it worked again. What do you think we should do?

It sounds like a bad motor but you should test it by running power and ground directly to the motor.

If all is working right now do nothing as all would test out OK.

As Hammer siad this could be a blower motor if at all speeds or the switch and finding what isn't broken causes hair and $$ loss. Direct wire to blower should make it run on high at least. If not blower would be suspect or grounding to it. Hard to fix what "ain't" broken if front of you,

Another test that may help you is the next time it stops, take a large screwdriver and hold it by the blade and rap the blower motor with the handle end and if the motor suddenly starts, you have a bad motor. You may have to remove an under dash cover to access the motor. Make sure it is turned on when you hit it.
