My daughters 99 Pontiac Sunfire's ac compressor wil not engage. Mechanic was trying to put freon in but could not get the clutch to engage. A/C worked fine a few days ago before we had a used engine installed. He didnt have time to investigate this week so I thought I would take a look. He thought there was a fuse? Does anyone know where this is located or any suggestions? The garage that installed the engine swears they didnt disconnect the a/c in any way shape or form so I trust that they are telling the truth.

The mechanic should have checked for voltage at the clutch (12 volts)... the pressure switch too its located on the accumulator,... he should have took a pressure reading of the system with a gauge which still let him know that there is still a charge in the system even if the compressor is not running, check these parts then proceed in checking the relay/fuse.

?? With all the things moved and unplugged to change the engine I wouldn't be a bit surprised if it's just empty now. A simple static pressure check would tell. System won't send current to compressor till it sees about 47psi minimum. If the static pressure is any lower in psi as the ambient temp F. then it leaked out bad! If it got opened even by mistake you can't just "filler up" without going thru a whole charging procedure, T
